Favorite secondary characters? (Note the plural)

Since this was my question, I better roll up my sleeves and get to work. 🙂

I tend to love secondary characters over the protagonist(s) so I have lots of these:

From Lois McMaster Bujold:
Ky Tung, an old mercenary who is a military history nut and really admires the protagonist’s father.
Elli Quinn, a female space mercenary who ends up choosing her profession over love and a suffocating life on a misogynistic planet.
Bel Thorne, an adventure loving hermaphrodite and also a space mercenary.
Aral Vorkosigan, an soldier with a keen sense of honor.
Foix and Ferda, a pair of soldier brothers from Paladin of Souls.
Learned Hallana who is a wife, a mother, a scholar, and a Saint to two gods. And doesn’t suffer fools at all.

From Steven Brust:
Morrolan e’Drien, a sorcerer, a warrior, a witch, and the follower of a bloodthirsty demon goddess Verra.
Aliera e’Kieron, a hotheaded noblewoman who likes to challenge people into duels.
Sethra Lavode, the most powerful sorceress in her world, and Mistress of the mysterious Dzur Mountain.

The Sea Witch from Seanan McGuire’s Toby Daye series. She’s literally thousands of years old and not friendly to, er, anyone.
Toby’s fetch May who is very young and learning do pretty much everything.

Elven Pirate Captain Phaelan Benaires from Lisa Shearin’s fantasy series. He’s from large criminal family and isn’t afraid to flaunt it.
Dark mage Tam from Shearin’s series. He has long and apparently bloody history.

Jenks, a pixie from Kim Harrison’s the Hollows. He’s very funny.
Ceridwen from the Hollows. She’s still mysterious character (I’m in book four) but she’s spent centuries working for a demon and is still getting used to being her own person.

Random, from Roger Zelazny’s Amber series.

All of the dragons in Naomi Novik’s Temeraire series. Iskierka is especially entertaining but the others have their moments, too.
