Series? Or Stand-alone books?
I like both but I tend to read more series because there’s just something more urgent about getting my hands on the next book in the series than getting the same author’s next stand-alone book.

That’s definitely true for me too. I always feel the need to get series books more than I do stand-alones.

I’m strange when it comes to buying a series.

I like both as long as it keeps you reading.

I think Series helps w/ overall reader investment, and therefore reward (inside jokes, more character connection, etc.), but it is hard for new readers to get into it. Stand alones are great in other ways – much in how a short story can be great as compared to a novel. Sometimes, I don’t want anything else beyond that initial story.
However, in science fiction and fantasy (and Urban Fantasy counts in this), series is natural because to create a world with rules, norms, etc. AND then drop it is a ton of work for limited payoff…for the author and the reader!
