Joanna and Brad are asking about “connecting words,” and they don’t mean conjunctions like “and” or “but.” No, what they’re looking for are unique, or treasured words that we’ve found out and about in our daily travels, words that might not be common usage, or often heard, but which struck a chord for some reason.
The only unique words that I’ve used are from Farscape (frell) and the New Battlestar Galactica (frack). Sometimes I find them useful to use instead of swearing. Of course, they aren’t from books so they might not really qualify. Then again, I don’t actually speak in English so I’m not likely to use any old English words.

I too am not from the English world. I know a lot of words in Hindi which fir the meme but I can’t use those here.

Useful to have swear words which other people won’t recognise. And it’s nice to have a bit of variety, some swear words can get very boring to hear! When I need to swear and have to be careful I usually say “rats”.

Hi Mervi
This project is taking on some interesting twists…!
The original idea was just to look for a word or two that had made a connection with you, or maybe led to a conversation with someone else on the back of it (kind of like what we’re doing in the comment box here)
But as guatami has taught me, I probably wasn’t too good at explaining it in the first place (“go figure!” is what I think I’m being told…)
Anyway, I enjoyed reading your words – esp frack…
Thanks for making the connection
Joanna

Non-familiar swear words are always useful! You never know who’ll be listening (grin).

Frack and frell are excellent swear word subs. I usually use fiddlesticks (especially on the golf course). Thanks for participating in our project!

My favorite swear-word substitute is “Barnacles” (from SpongeBob)

[...] Mervi, another sci-fi fan, draws on the genre’s rich language for curse words. Stellar idea! [...]
